CMMC 1.0 Practice AU.3.052 Requirement:

Provide audit record reduction and report generation to support on-demand analysis and reporting.

CMMC 1.0 AU.3.052 Requirement Explanation:

"Audit record reduction" is a process that takes collected audit records (e.g. computer logs) and organizes them in a manner that is more meaningful to someone reviewing them. This can be accomplished by using a SIEM that filters system logs based on important criteria such as their event type or code. A person may only want to review security-related logs, this can be accomplished using the filtering capabilities of a SIEM to filter out warning or information message logs so that only security-related logs are visible to the reviewer. Using a SIEM, you can create dashboards that display useful security event information, automated alerts and reports allowing you to correlate events occurring throughout your organization to identify security incidents.

Example CMMC 1.0 AU.3.052 Implementation:

Configure a security information and event management (SIEM) system that filters system logs (audit record reduction) from your Syslog server to create reports (report generation) that allow you to create dashboards with relevant information that can be reviewed at any time to identify security incidents (on-demand analysis).

CMMC 1.0 AU.3.052 Scenario(s):

- Scenario 1:

Your company leverages its security information and event management (SIEM) system to process logs collected by your Syslog server to create dashboards, alerts, and graphs that enable you to quickly identify security incidents.
